Ok moving right along, the acoustic glass is in!

I had to hand cut the corners on the fly, I think I did OK. Love my Japanese pull saws!

Still lots to do before I head to Osaka for a week long playground build, but I'll get it done.

The acoustic glass is in, but the room is less than soundproof, much less. :(

I built a VERY soundproof wall, and the acoustic glass is the best stuff, so what is the problem?

Turns out the AC vents on the ceiling in the old living room and dining room are connected.

AC vent patch 1.jpg
This is the vent in question, this is on the ceiling of the new room I made, at the far end just over, or just outside the wall there is the other vent in the larger room.

AC vent patch 2.jpg
A close up, you can see the light there, that light is coming from the vent in the outside room.... sigh....

The plan is to make a cover or patch that goes over this vent to block it off.
There is another vent on the other side of the room that connects to the main AC unit, not to another vent outside the room so I'm hoping that will be OK. I'll get the AC guy to adjust the floor so that it directs more air to the one functioning vent, I hope they can do that.

AC vent patch 3.jpg
I put two pieces of 5.5mm (1/4") MDF together with some of the Green Glue noise canceling compound that I used on the wall I built, the MDF is dense like drywall, so I hope it works.
AC vent patch 4.jpg
You can see some of the green glue oozing out of the edges.

AC vent patch 5.jpg
I put a simple edge treatment on the panel to make it look nicer.

AC vent patch 6.jpg
Painted it to match the ceiling.

On the side that goes against the ceiling and the AC vent around the edge of this panel will be come acousting strip, like weather strip but designed to cancel sound (read expensive).

I'm off that job today getting ready for the trip to Osaka with Playground of Hope for a week long build, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get this installed and see how it works.

We also decided to cover the entire existing inside wall of the room with sound deadening foam, floor to ceiling as well as one large panel on the back wall opposite the glass, this should make the room more sound proof and cut the bounce down in the room as well.

Wish me luck!

Cheers!

Almost, oh man, so close!

I'm short on carpet tiles, I forgot about the overhang on the riser, so I thought I could use one tile to do two row ends, but I can't. The tiles are 50cm X 50cm, the end piece needs to be 50cm X 26.5cm....! Oh well I need to go and get a total of 6 more tiles.
Have to do that bit of carpet, then the baseboard, finish swapping white switches and outlets for black ones, then the outside baseboard (need to varnish it first) the riser needs the glow in the dark edge strip and finally the backsplash for the countertop that has the electrical outlets and the LED strip to light up the countertop.
Getting close!
Done for the day!

Boy I've been pushing hard to get this done. It is almost 8 PM here Wednesday night, Thursday at 6 PM I will be on the train to Osaka for a week long playground build. Going to be a late one tonight, and I won't get it all done, but mostly done will have to do.
Two large hurdles were the mirror film on the acoustic glass, they had to do it FOUR times to get it right, it is on the large side so it was difficult to do, but it is done and it looks great!

The other hurdle is the overall soundproofing. I only built the one wall, and it is good, as well as the glass, but the other walls... well we knew this could happen.

I covered the one wall wit the acoustic foam panels, and the ceiling is getting some acoustic blocks stuck to them. I also had to block off the other AC vent as sound was coming through it too. Now we need to have an aircon installed in the soundproof room. Well that will have to wait until I get back!!
Wish me luck!

Interesting build as always. Is there any kind of "White" noise generator used?

I don't think so, but I know the sound board they are using has some kind of noise canceling tech.

Ok I'm out of this jobsite for a week, got really close to done, but not quite. In a week I have maybe two more days work.
Yes I owe them some baseboard on the outside white wall, as well as a few sundry things. There is a phase 2 already in the works.

Glad to get this one done!

Cheers!
