    sassafras

I was digging through my lumber stash and found this little gem. I thought I'd share because you don't see much sassafras lumber. I only have the one board and it was around 9' long by 8.5" wide. I cut about a foot off for one of the kids at school to make his grandmother something for mothers day. It has really darkened, and it smells great when cut! The picture of the edge is a fresh cut for comparison.

I have used sassafras for cutting boards, and a few other small projects. It does smell good when cut, and with an oil finish it looks gorgeous.

I've also used it. It works pretty well, is fairly strong, can look a bit like dark oak, and definitely smells nice when cut.

Huh I'd only seen small fresh cut pieces before and had no idea it got that dark. Almost looks like fresh walnut.
