My daughter is planning to move out soon and has been hitting the thrift stores for furniture. She found this old coffee table, which was painted completely black. I could see the diamond pattern of some wood grain through the top and suggested she try stripping it as the paint job was pretty bad. I fully expected her to repaint it, but sounds like she may just be sanding it down and doing a clear coat. There is one little area of bubbling that needs some attention due to water damage (particle board underneath), but I think we can work it out.
