Steady Rest

I have a walking stick project that is past due for my BILs mother. I tried to turn a couple 28" pieces of maple as a test run and realized pretty quickly that I needed a steady rest to get the job done. I started making this one about 5yrs ago, but never finished it. Can't believe I found the part I had started to be honest. All made from scrap oak ply and solid oak pieces for the "arms" that hold the wheels. The wheels came from a $2 set of inline skates I bought at a garage sale over 6yrs ago. Hope to give it a real test later this week.

I like that. It's a far cry better than the one I tried making some time back. I have one made by Grizzly for smaller diameter projects, which I used extensively when I made walking canes. But I do need one for larger projects. Good job there, Jeff.
