Shop Build - Winding River Workshop

Got a bit more done on the drawers today. Fully assembled and a quick coat of poly inside and out. Simple construction, 3/4" birch ply with 1/4" tempered hardboard bottom. Slides are due to be delivered Monday so I will spend the weekend organizing and cleaning. Might even knock an item off the honey-do list. Hey, don't laugh, could happen.

Looks good, Rennie.
Will you step the top out over the edge of the finished drawer fronts to keep sawdust out?

I'll be putting a 3/4" hardwood face on the drawers and 3/4" hardwood trim on the plywood frame edges. The drawers will be inset flush with the frame. Hadn't thought about the dust issue. Maybe the top frame piece can be 1"...

Insetting the drawers should take care of any significant dust, especially when you consider how well your DC system has been set up.

Work continues! Couldn't wait to finish the drawers, I just had to start getting organized. What a wonderful feeling. Part of filling the new drawers is going through the old ones, cleaning and reorganizing.

Also been working on getting the walls prepped for paint in the office. Paint should go up this week except for the exterior wall as I have yet to install the new entry door.

Truly a Dream shop. Looking great!

Beautiful shop Rennie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Organization is a beautiful thing. We'll be seeing this in a "Dream Shops" issue of some magazine.

Thanks guys, you are too kind. Dream shop? Not so much. It is turning out better than I expected - the original garage was a dank, dark, spider infested hole. I think the part I'm most pleased with is being able to do this on a pretty tight budget. Thank goodness for Craig's list, local Facebook buy/sell/trade and a wife who loves to bargain shop and re-purpose. :D

Doing more "feel good" organization. Been rearranging drawers and cabinets and finding homes for some of the harder to store items. Case in point are my photo lamps that I use for, well, photos, but also use them during finishing. Simple bracket on the wall in some otherwise unused space. I picked up some ambrosia maple for those drawer fronts on the miter station. Will start on those tomorrow.

Took advantage of the +50° weather today to replace the entry door to the shop. The old door had not been properly installed and the threshold had rotted away. Also, I really wanted to bring in a little more light and open up the view from the office to the river.

Fortunately the rough opening was sized properly and not too far out of plumb. Here are the before, during, and after shots.

Now I can finish the floor, trim things out, and get the desk moved in.

Looks like you'll get some great light in the office from that door. Quite honestly if anyone wants in, they'll get in. You can pickup a cheaper security camera/dvr system for a couple hundred $, probably one of the better deterrents. If they think they'll be identified, they just don't try, at least this is what my law enforcement friends say. I've actually seen folks drive up towards my shop, then leave after they realize they were on camera, which is hard to see until you're up close to the shop.
