The kids have been making whirligigs in class. The purpose is to use the engineering design process. To take rotational movement and make lineal and to use a little mechanical engineering and of course problem solving.

Here's a few of their creations.
From top to bottom

The drinking bird
The fisherman
Turkey hunt
and the mechanics on the turkey hunt

Man John where were you when i was at school. Way to go man, such cool projects kudos to you and the kids. They probably dont realize just what a asset you have been in their lives but i put a huge bet on them realising it in say 20 years time.

hah, those are great, I've always loved the whirlygigs :thumb:

My great uncle had made one that was a cowboy on a bucking horse (as I recall the arm, horses body and rear legs were articulated). I blame that plus my second cousin building a full set of cabinets for our cabin (out of not much of anything, material or tools) for my early fascination with woodworking.

Now I need to make one that's a model of the bucking horse :) Its only been on my list for like 30 years
