Decided to add lights to the printer so I can monitor the jobs on it in the dark out in the shop, lol.

At any rate, since I was going to do that, figured I'd set it up to turn the printer on and off and be able to turn the lights on and off via the octoprint control pane.

This guy did a pretty darn good job of documenting what you need to do.

Here's a good link to the the gpio pinouts for the Raspberry Pi 3

Well so much for my attempts at cleaning up the wiring and using an enclosure.

I basically ran a thick wire from the power supply to a little terminal block, and used some fancy schmancy wiring to turn it into more of a bus block.

I used these little ferrules on the the ends of the wires. Really like using these over bare wires or just tinning the ends with solder. Note, these do require a special crimper and they will put a nice square profile on the crimped end.

Here you can see that I've destroyed all my attempts at hiding the wiring.

Looking good Brent. You took me back to my very first day on the job with those connector thingys. Was dumped at a hospital Xray room to be with a ton of crates containing Xray equipment. Given a crowbar and told i would find everything in the crates and to get on with it.
Well the wiring on that unit was extensive and we had to put those connectors on all the wire going into screw terminals. What a job.

You dun good.

You're an animal, Brent! :thumb:

I received an order of a strip of LEDs today and have a couple of ideas about lighting for a camera. The relay approach sounds great, too, but for a non-IT type here, I'll be working on it for a few days!

Now that I've had the fun with Octopi with the 3d printer, I'm looking at similar interaction with my CNC!!!

Oh, yeah, I still toss in a bit of WOODworking along the way, too! :thumb:

I'm with you Bill. The octopi is great.

I'm going to do a rewire on my CNC in the near future, and am looking for an octopi type solution there as well.
