Mystery Asian Chisels?

Hello,

I picked these chisels up at a thriftstore and have not been successful at matching them up to anything online. I assume that they are either Chinese or Japanese, but again, just assuming. If anybody has any insight into origin or age, I certainly would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Brian

This is very far from certain, but they remind me a lot of rock sculpture chisels I've seen. If that's true they'll be tempered a smidge softer than most wood chisels to make them somewhat tougher. I could well be entirely wrong on this though.

The string wrap is intriguing. Examine it to see if there is any use residue which might give some hints as to the purpose.

There are some thailand or taiwan carving videos on Youtube that show people using similar ones. As they carve mainly teak wood, they use them with a mallet all the time, do not push them at all, hence the lack of a proper or typical handle, or so I think
