What is the proper thickness to make butterflies to place across a crack on a wood slab? The walnut slab I'm working on will end up at around a 2" thickness (maybe a tad less).

I was thinking about making the butterflies 1/2" thick. I saw a tutorial that said they should be 1/3 to 1/2 the thickness of the wood but that was showing a top of about 1" thick.

Thanks!

For a 2" thick slab, I'd put two half inch thick butterflies in - one on the top, and the second one directly under it on the bottom. that'd keep the slab from (potentially) curling.
