wasn't going to go this far with them, but then again, i did. started gluing up the side assemblies, and after adding the corbels to one of them, did a full up test assembly. the need for the clamp prevented using the top cap.

got the second set of sides completed. then hit them with the stain. it was when i did the test assembly, that i found that an error had been made in assembling one of the sides. short of making a whole new side, the only solution that i can see, is to make some plugs to fit the holes, sand them down, stain them, and hope like all get out that they aren't noticed. this was after the fun with the dresser top. i decided to call it a day.

after stripping the dresser top, went to work on the quilt rack side repairs. planed the plugs to the proper width, and cut to length, and tapped in with the persuader (very tight fit). then sanded them flush, and stained. with that done, measured out, and cut the new mortises in the correct places. so happy i was with the repair, i decided to fully assemble the one in the clamps. loosened the clamps, glued the tenons, and reapplied the clamps, and went to work on the dresser top with gel stain. i'll assemble the second one in a few days (that whole work thing, ya know), and then hit the sides with shellac.
