oh well, can only dodge one's sister just for so long. she wanted me to repair the bench for her piano. at first, it was just straight up replace the bottom (original got knocked out some time ago), then, it was, can something be done for the top? the bench is cherry, with cherry veneer on either pine or poplar for the aprons. the only solid wood is only the top and legs. after i added the new bottom (with a bunch of staples), sanded the top down a bit, and sprayed with amber shellac. the top will darken with exposure to light, and was given a hand rubbed coat of paste wax, and a coat of pledge for a harder protection (plus making it slipperier than heck, she may slide right off the other end of the bench ).

That came out looking nice, Dan. :thumb:

FWIW, despite any marketing claims to the contrary, Pledge doesn't really add anything in the way of protection. Makes things look and smell good, though. ;)
