I have a bosch ROS20vsc (or an older model of it) that works fine but Im looking for something faster, Ive been doing a lot of tables lately and sanding the tops it taking too long working up through the grits. Would one the dual mode sanders (like the 1250devs or ros65vc) work faster, ie use on aggressive mode up through the grits and finish on ROS mode/fine mode. Is this how it works, or is the aggressive mode more for shaping and removal of paint etc. etc. I have a drum sander that I use to flatten the tops but it leaves fairly deep straight line scratches in it, I have 120 grit on the drum sander and I usually have to start with 80 grit on the ROS to get the drum sander marks out in a reasonable amount of time. Any thoughts?

If you have a large enough air compressor, get a pneumatic (dual action) sander. I got one to speed up the sanding process on the slab I'm working on. It works great since it's much more aggressive than an ROS.
