i have an old in medium shape 192, and have couple of questions about it. first according to what i have found thus far the slitter is poor shape, what was its intended use? i am new at his folks so bear with me. its steve C's fault:D the handles has the full curvy horns not the version with no horns on the handle, any way of telling its approx age ? it also has a added stamp for the 9 as though in the pattern it was one of the first to be switched from 180 to a 190..i used to work in foundry and so i know about changing patterns for castings:thumb: so any info you guys can give me would be appreciated and if the slitter is necessary where could i get a better one? well thats it folks for now and thanks for nay help you can muster.

I would guess that the spur from a Stanley #78 would fit. They're still available from Stanley.

or you can get a kit of three spurs and six screws:

The spur is there to score the grain ahead of the cutter. I have not yet used my Millers Falls #85 which veryvery similar to a Stanley #78, but I figure since both Stanley and Millers Falls put the spurs on there they're probably pretty useful.
