another siding question

My house has aluminum siding installed over cedar shingles, and I am finally getting rid of the metal disaster next month. This is going to leave nail and screw holes all over the place. What is the best way to fill these holes? Is there an "exterior grade spackle" or something similar? I have already started ripping the stuff off and cant wait to get rid of the rest!!
