Here is a spalted maple lidded box I did off a idea I got from Ray Key. It is 2 3/4" across and 4" high with the finial. It is finished with Minwax Antique Oil and Lacquer then buffed. It has a nice suction fit on the lid.

Very pretty. The finish looks really good.
I've never had much luck putting lacquer over oil. How long did you let the oil cure before the lacquer top coat?

Steven I let the oil dry for at least 72 hrs. Mostly from one weekend to the next. Never seem to have a problem.

Stu I do like my Nova DVR. A sweet machine to say the least.

Thanks again everyone.

Bernie,

That's the kind of perfection I aspire to. Very, very nice. One day, I may try something like that too, but,,,not today.

Aloha, Tony

Thanks for the kind comments. Tony get Ray Key's DVD Turned Boxes, The Finial Box. He takes you thru step by step. Once you have did one it is extremely easy to do from there.
