Birthday present done and presented... ;)

Well, I finally got the big birdhouse done, only 2 1/2 weeks *after* the recipient's birthday! Blew up three blanks along the way. Don't ask...

30" tall. Got young James to carry it in... big ceremony complete with Tibetan bell. He could barely carry it. Doorlink found a nice quasi-medieval tablecloth to wrap it in, and everyone played along. A good time was had by all!

Don't have any pictures of it hanging up, just some from the shop:

And just for giggles, here's a picture of the shop floor:

It got easier as I went, since I was perched on a mountain of shavings. Hmmmm... maybe I should lower my lathe stand...

    Thanks,

    Bill

Nicely done, Bill. The recipient must have been totally overwhelmed.

Well done Bill. I am sure it will be treasured for some time to come. Excellent gift.

    Good job!

About the floor, I've found a square coal shovel works about the best!

    Cheers!

Way to go Bill. I'll bet it went over well. Isn't the mountain of shavings a gas?

That's a great looking birdhouse Bill. I'll bet the new owner was pleased and the birds will love it too. They do make a pile of shavings, don't they.

    Curt,

When you said it's like turning a log into a toothpick, you weren't joking... It really was good practice, but it also brought me face to face with my own imperfections. Because of the project, I've changed my sharpening methods, determined I need to get better with specific tools, even need to rethink my center finding.

Long story short, it'll be a long time before I can do what you do...

    Thanks,

    Bill
