I can name that tune in...

My poppa told me "You gonna drive me to drinking is you don't stop driving that hot rod Lincoln" :D

Commander Cody!

Goodness, I have a million of them floating around in my head.....

How about....

"Well, a Scotsman clad in kilt once left a bar one evening fair,
And one could tell by how he walked that he'd drunk more than his share.
He fumbled 'round until he could no longer keep his feet.
Then he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.

Ring ding diddle iddle i de o,
Ring die diddley i o.
He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.." :D

I'll not post the rest of it, but it makes me laugh!

Watching Scotty Grow
Bobby Goldsboro

There he sits with a pen and a yellow pad,
What a handsome lad, that's my boy,
BRLFQ spells mom and dad,
But that ain't too bad, that's my boy.
You can have your TV and you nightclubs,
And you can have your drive in picture show,
I'll stay here with my little man near, we'll listen to the radio,
Biding my time and Watching Scotty grow.

Making a castle out of building blocks,
And a cardboard box, That's my boy,
Mickey Mouse says it's thirteen o'clock,
Well that's quite a shock! That's my boy.

In four short years I've gone from rags to riches,
And what I did before that I don't know,
So let it rain on my windowpane, I got my own rainbow,
And we're sitting here shining watching Scotty grow.

Riding on daddy's shoudlers off to bed,
Old sleepy head, that's my boy,
Got to have a drink of water and a story read,
A teddy bear named Fred, that's my boy.

What's that you say momma come on and keep you feet warm,
Well save me a place I'll be there in a minute or so,
I'll think I'll stay right here and say a little prayer before I go,
Me and God watching Scotty grow.

Me and God watching Scotty grow,

DT

HONEY
Bobby Golodsboro

See the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it was just a twig
Then the first snow came and she ran out
To brush the snow away so it wouldn't die
Came runnin' in all exited
Slipped and almost hurt herself and I laughed 'til I cried

She was always young at heart
Kind of dumb and kind a smart and I love her so
And I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all christmas eve two years ago
And it would sure embarrass her when
I came home from working late 'cause I would know
That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'
Over some sad and silly late late show

And Honey I miss you and I'm being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could

She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad but what the heck
Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me and hugged my neck
I came home unexpectedly
And caught her crying needlessly in the middle of the day
And it was in the early spring
When flowers bloom and Robin sing she went away

And Honey I miss you and I'm being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could

One day while I was not home
While she was there and all alone the angels came
Now all I have is memories
Of Honey and I wake up nights and call her name
Now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played and love grew up
And a small cloud passes over head
And cries down the flower bed that Honey loved

And see the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
And Ilaughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it was just a twig

Ok  Last one, I could do this all night.

Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay
Otis Redding

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time
I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay
'Cause I've had nothing to live for
And look like nothin's gonna come my way

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Many a night I've tried to go to sleep only to have one of my son's songs running in my head!:eek:

As a preschooler, the song I would run around singing (or so I've been told) was the Playmates "Little Nash Rambler". Starts slow, and ends fast - perfect for a little guy building up to a sugar rush!

Beep beep beep beep
His horn went beep beep beep
While riding in my Cadillac
What to my surprise
A little Nash Rambler was following me
About one third my size
The guy musta wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn
I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn
Beep beep beep beep
His horn went beep beep beep

And so on and so forth.

Stu.....That song written by Charley Ryan IIRC. He was performing in a bar at Kooskia, Idaho about 100 miles east of Lewiston. On his way back home to Spokane after his late hour gig, he drove up the OLD Lewiston grade to get out of the canyon. He wrote the song as and after he made it up the grade. He's semi-retired now but I saw him interviewed in the local paper and he told the story of how he wrote that song.

ON a slightly different note.....The last full week of August Lewiston has for 21 years had a summer celebration "Hot August Nights".......Thursday night show and shine car show and cruising of main street...awards etc....Friday and Saturday night city park turns into a beer garden....big name bands....Friday night this year....I forget the guy's name...he's in the R&R H of F....former lead singer for Journey and Santana.......Saturday night...My birthday.....Eric Burdon and the Animals.....Please don't call my house Sunday....Saturday night will be long and tough!:D

Being some what of a "youngster" (in my 30s) here at FWW, I grew up listening to the local Oldies station with my Dad and my best friend's father. So a good may of the songs everyone is posting are pretty familiar to me.

The one that pops in my head is

"I can see clearly now"

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obsticles in my way
gone are the dark clouds that had me down

its gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiney day,
its gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiney day

I think I can make it now the rain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
here is that rainbow I've been praying for

its gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiney day,

look all around, there nothing but blue skies
look straight ahead, nothing but blue skies

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obsticles in my way
gone are the dark clouds that had me down

its gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiney day,
its gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiney day,
its gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiney day

This one's from the 80s....

Juliann Lenon - "Its much too late for goodbyes"

The significance here is that I specifically remember hearing that song on the radio when I was a kid working with my Dad in the basement. It was a woodworking project for Cub Scouts, a pine wood derby car, as I recall.:thumb:

"Its much too late for goodbyes"

Ever since you've been leaving me
i've been wanting to cry
now i know how it feels for you
i've been wanting to die

but its much too late for goodbyes
yes its much too late for goodbyes.......

I forget the guy's name...he's in the R&R H of F....former lead singer for Journey and Santana.......Saturday night...My birthday.....Eric Burdon and the Animals.....:D

Ken, I think I intensely dislike you....The Animals - House of the Risin' Sun - 1964 - my sophomore year in college - this was the song that everyone was singing:

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Risin' Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor girl
And God, I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
She sewed these new blue jeans
My sweetheart was a gambler, Lord
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

He fills his glasses up to the brim
And he'll pass the cards around
And the only pleasure he gets out of life
Is ramblin' from town to town

Oh tell my baby sister
Not to do what I have done
But shun that house in New Orleans
They call the Risin' Sun

Well, it's one foot on the platform
And the other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

I'm a-goin' back to New Orleans
My race is almost run
I'm goin' back to end my life
Down in the Risin' Sun

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Risin' Sun
It's been the ruin of many poor girl
And me, oh God, I'm a-one

Wasn't the Journey lead singer named Steve Perry? I can't find any reference that he was ever with Santana--I can't even find any info about Santana on Google!!

This song has to be just about my all-time favorite song. It was done originally (I think) by Nat King Cole.

(If I had to choose just one day)

If I had to choose just one day
To last my whole life through
It would surely be that Sunday
The day that I met you

Newborn whippoorwills were calling from the hills
Summer was a-coming in but fast
Lots of daffodils were showing off their skills
Nodding all together, I could almost hear them whisper
"Go on, kiss her, go on and kiss her"

If I had to choose one moment
To live within my heart
It would be that tender moment
Recalling how we started
Darling, it would be when you smiled at me
That way, that Sunday, that summer

Nancy...IIRC....Richard Marks? Sharon recognized the guys' name. She and my daughter were Journey fans. They are billing this year as "R & R Hall of Fame" year. Last year they had a Chicago group that I chased around...The Buckinghams......The year before they had the "Rascals"......Gary Lewis and the Playboys have been here......A couple of years ago...Johnny Rivers with B. J. Thomas as the warm up. Though I have everything Johnny Rivers did on CD, he should have been warming up for B.J. Thomas. BJT sounds better now than he did 40 year ago. Idaho's own Paul Revere and the Raiders have been here ......The Association.......Hermans Hermits were here a couple of years ago. .....After the concert, Sharon bought a CD for one of our granddaughters who went with us as our guest. Peter Noonan(sp?) autographed it....Sharon said "You sing as good as you used to!" He replied quickly "So do you!"......He's obviously never heard the LOML sing!

Nancy.....Greg Rollie.....is the guy...sang lead with Santana and Journey according to his bio. His name did show up on Santana's website as a former voclalist..I just went to the Hot August nights website...

Nancy......Love songs......The Association...."Never My Love"......

How about this one from the Association?

Who's peaking out from under a stairway,
calling a name that's lighter than air?

Who's bending down to give me a rainbow?

Everyone knows it's Windy

Who's drifting down the streets of the city,
smiling at everybody she see?

Who's reaching out to capture a moment?

Everyone knows it's Windy...........

Nancy......Love songs......The Association...."Never My Love"......

YES!! I didn't think about that one. My favorite Association song was always "Cherish", but "Never My Love" fits into my scheme of things. I was just about to post about Greg Rolie--finally found some info about him--he was one of the original members of Journey when they broke away from Santana.

You mentioned BJ Thomas - several years ago David and I won a pair of tickets to see him performing at one of the casinos north of Santa Fe, and it was one of THE best shows I've ever seen. As David said, he looked like he's been "rode hard and put away wet", but his voice.... My favorite of all his songs is "I Just Can't Help Believing" (would you believe Elvis also recorded this?)

(words & music by B.J. Thomas)
I just can't help believin'
When she smiles up soft and gentle
With a trace of misty morning
And the promise of tomorrow in her eyes

I just can't help believin'
When she's lying close beside me
And my heart beats with the rhythm of her sighs
This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay
For more than just a day

Oh, I just can't help believin'
When she slips her hand in my hand
And it feels so small and helpless
As my fingers fold around it like a glove

I just can't help believin'
When she's whispering her magic
And her tears are shining honey sweet with love
This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay
For more than just a day
For more than just a day

You just can't believe how many memories this thread is bringing back....

B.J. Thomas played at the Clearwater River Casino here a couple of weeks ago while I was in Illinois.

He was on drugs for a long while but supposedly is clean now.

When he performed here 3 or 4 years ago, he really put on a show and worked the crowd. Johnny Rivers on the other hand appear to have a "Let's do this gig and get on down the road" attitude. His music carried the same feeling. It was disappointing.

B.J. Thomas' song:

Most of all....

Hello darlin'...my it's good to hear you
I'm at the railroad station in St. Paul
How are all the folks?....I'd love to see 'em
But Girl I'd love see you most of all

Well I've been staring at the rain and I've been thinkin'
Ever since the train left Montreal
Thought I'd always love this life I'm livin'
But now I know I love you most of all

Many times before I know swore that I'd come home to stay
but it alway seems that foolish dreams and trains got in my way...

Tomorrow there will snow in Minnesota
but I won't be around to watch it fall
I'll be heading for that old familiar station
Hoping you still love me "Most all"

Girl you know I love you "Most all"

I miss you Baby....Most of All.....

7 years ago I nearly drove 7 French Engineers crazy. They were students attending the same class as I. I had 13 years experience and the instructors were using me as a lab instructor even though I was a student.

I sang this DC5 song over and over...I was missing the LOML...

Dave Clark 5:

Come Home

As I write my letter today..
tears start falling from my eyes...
I remember things we used to say and the ties that bind our love

Only one thing I want to do...come home.oh yeah..come home
Long as I know I'm coming home to you....I"m coming home...

Please remember while I'm away...I think of you night and day
Of things..of the fun while we were one...
Only one thing I want to do...come home ....come home
long as I know I'm coming home to you

I didn't think it would be as hard as it's been
But now I'm coming home to give you a ring..

As I write my letter today...tears start falling from my eyes
I remember things we used say and the ties that bind our love...
Only one thing I want to do...come home ....come home
long as I know I'm coming home to you
Only one thing I want to do...come home ....come home
long as I know I'm coming home to you

Y'all have never heard it, but this is the one is bouncing around right now in my head...it goes with a fast "Johnny B. Goode" style of beat.

Well I can see ol' Buddy Holly turning in his grave
If he could hear the way that Rock and Roll is played today
With all the constant contrapuntal counterpoint and confusion
It's a wonder we get anything done.

Whatever happened to good old 4-4
They've got 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and more
You can't even keep your feet a stompin' on the floor
Without falling over

They've got
Art Rock
Acid Rock
Bop Rock
Classic Rock
Country Rock
Jazz Rock
Slow Rock
Fast Rock
Pop and Punk and Placid Rock
Fusion, Funk and Flaccid Rock
They've even got rocks you never heard of!
