I can name that tune in...

As a 12 year old who barely knew what a Chevy was let alone a levee I was captured by Don Mcleans "American Pie" and still haven't quite managed to escape. Doubt I could still do it all word for word without a prompt but definitely sing along whenever it plays.

"Galveston" did much the same thing at much the same time and continues to do much the same thing at regular intervals.

The whole album "Greatest Hits etc" by Paul Simon was played to death and while I couldn't write the words out here I can accompany the great man on every one of them.

"Will you tell me something Mr Lumberjack,
Is it 1 for forward and three for back,
Is it 2 for stop or 4 for go,
Boy, ask the whistlepunk, I don't know" is stuck in my head to this day because my father would put Johny Cash's "Ride this Train" on the turntable first thing in the morning and leave it on repeat until last thing at night.

"I am the morning DJ..." was long car journeys. (Harry Chapin)

"I never thought it would happen,
with me and the girl from Clapham,
Out on the windy common,
That night I ain't forgotten" - Squeeze - who were great poets as well as being based local to where I live.

Man - now I'm gonna spend all day trying to get this stuff out of my head.

Nancy.....Greg Rollie.....is the guy...sang lead with Santana and Journey according to his bio. His name did show up on Santana's website as a former voclalist..I just went to the Hot August nights website...

Not the singer, but another member of both groups is the still current Journey guitar player - Niel Schon.

Edit:
Forgot that he was also something like 17 years old when playing rhythm guitar with Santana at Woodstock.

Brooks & Dunn

Believe

"I can't quote the book, the chapter or the verse, you can't tell me, it all ends with a slow ride in a hearse........."

Recently this song has been playing in my head :)

B.J. Thomas played at the Clearwater River Casino here a couple of weeks ago while I was in Illinois.

He was on drugs for a long while but supposedly is clean now.

When he performed here 3 or 4 years ago, he really put on a show and worked the crowd. Johnny Rivers on the other hand appear to have a "Let's do this gig and get on down the road" attitude. His music carried the same feeling. It was disappointing.
Had the same type of experience with Bob Dylan here in Idaho a few years back - I left halfway through the show... fortunately with my eardrums still in tact. I went expecting to see and hear one man, one guitar, one harmonica - left with a terrible headache and temporarily diminished hearing.

A little note on B J Thomas. He lives here in the Metroplex. About the time he was getting off drugs, he became a Christion and started doing Christian soft rock. Several Albums. He got really soured on doing concerts because people wanted to hear "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" and he wasn't doing his old music at that point. People booed him off the stage IIRC in Denton, even though the concert wasn't billed as an oldies concert. I felt sorry for the guy. Glad he is getting out and performing again. He used to sing the National Anthem at the Ranger's game once a year.
Nancy, try this one from BJ for your hubby's CD. "Hooked On A Feeling" I can't stop this feeling, deep inside of me, Girl you just don't realize what you do to me. When I hold you, in my arms so tight, you let me know, everything all's right. I'm hooked on a feeling. High on believing, That I'm in love with you. Jim.

Geez, can't believe no-one's mentioned Country Joe and the Fish:

"Now, if you're tired
and a bit run down
can't seem to get your feet
off the gound
maybe you oughtta try
a little bit of...."

Whoops. Ok, how about this one:

"Well, come on all you big strong men
Uncle sam needs your help again
He's got himself in a terrible jam... "

Boy, am I getting old... ;)

"and it's one, two, three... " ;)

Thanks,

Bill
