As a 12 year old who barely knew what a Chevy was let alone a levee I was captured by Don Mcleans "American Pie" and still haven't quite managed to escape. Doubt I could still do it all word for word without a prompt but definitely sing along whenever it plays.
"Galveston" did much the same thing at much the same time and continues to do much the same thing at regular intervals.
The whole album "Greatest Hits etc" by Paul Simon was played to death and while I couldn't write the words out here I can accompany the great man on every one of them.
"Will you tell me something Mr Lumberjack,
Is it 1 for forward and three for back,
Is it 2 for stop or 4 for go,
Boy, ask the whistlepunk, I don't know" is stuck in my head to this day because my father would put Johny Cash's "Ride this Train" on the turntable first thing in the morning and leave it on repeat until last thing at night.
"I am the morning DJ..." was long car journeys. (Harry Chapin)
"I never thought it would happen,
with me and the girl from Clapham,
Out on the windy common,
That night I ain't forgotten" - Squeeze - who were great poets as well as being based local to where I live.
Man - now I'm gonna spend all day trying to get this stuff out of my head.
