Thanks Stu & Bill,
It's funny how little it takes to get a persons head straight
Detour ..... two of my flying instructors were ex-RCAF ... when I was first learning, they would hammer me hard (really hard) if my front tire wasn't on the centre-line, taxying, landing, taking off - what ever ... At first I'd say "why? - we've got a 100' wide runway ..??) they'd go blue and ask me what I was gonna do when I had to force land on a dirt road somewhere ... they made me pay attention to what I was doing .. it was good advice, even if I've never needed the dirt road.
Back on topic .... paying attention ... Bill, you said :
Good advice - I did just that and watched what I was doing and ... I wasn't paying attention all the time ... my "turning wheel" wasn't on the centre line
Stu, you said :
Yup ... sharper is better eh? or so I thought, and that's true, but I was missing the support of the bevel - I'd been lengthening the tip without realising it - I resharpened to this:
The grind og the gouge only determines the rate of removal not the catching. I contend the tool rest is your problem.... Oops, My o[pinion and not to belittle the previous post but but ...
