Doing Searches

Aaron, right now it's set to limit search words to four letters since three-letter searches would add a LOT of extra words to the search database (most of them words that wouldn't likely be searched for), and that, in turn, could put a high load on the servers, which would slow everything down. I don't have specific numbers to know how much it would affect things, but the vBulletin documentation strongly recommends against allowing searches for words shorter than 4 letters.

I know there's a way to use Google to search a specific forum. I'll see if I can find more details about it.

Here's an example using SMC's Google Search feature
"http://www.google.com/search?domains=sawmillcreek.org&sitesearch=sawmillcreek.org&q=jet+bandsaw"

Ought to be pretty easy to substitute the right stuff for FWW

Aaron,

Go to http://www.google.com

paste in this string:

router site:familywoodworking.org

or try

bench site:familywoodworking.org

or

bit site:familywoodworking.org

That last one returns this:

Results 1 - 10 of about 2,650 from familywoodworking.org for bit.

Works like a dream... ;)

Thanks,

Bill

Thanks Bill. I knew it was an easy string. I'll try to remember that...

search term site:familywoodworking.org
