    finish before or after assembly

What are the pros and cons of applying finish before or after assembly?

It would be good for me to read peoples' opinions in general - and the project in mind is that jewelry box for my wife that might possibly be a Christmas present...

    I finish after assembly except
    1. Floating panels in doors (partially finished before assembly, then more finish)
    2. Backs of cabinets (bookcases, etc.) are finished separately, also making it easier to spray the casework.
