My shop progress.....and tour......

Well........here's photographic evidence of my shop's current condition. I'd have been finished about 18 months ago except for some inmates sending me a mini lathe and tools. My new b/s and lathe showed up about 4 weeks ago but I refused to unpack them until the shop is finished. I've got it painted and the lights hung. The lights had been sitting in the corner collecting dust for 18 months or so. I was turning with the only working lights in the shop.....a set of construction lights on a stand.

This afternoon I have 4 more outlets to install in the ceiling and then I'd debating renting an engine hoist and unpacking the lathe.

Nice looking shop Ken. I agree totally with the comments about "bright". I don't know how many shops/garages etc I've been in where you can hardly see what you're working on. When my business partner and I bought our building for the small engine shop in 2000, we painted it semi-gloss white and went way overboard with extra lights and never regretted it for a second. Nicely done - you'll never regret it either!!

cheers eh?

Beautiful work Ken!!! :thumb:

Don't make the same mistake that I did. If you plan to do something with those concrete floors do it BEFORE you fill it up with heavy machines.

My legs have learned to hate me but now I can't get anything on the floor until I get all the messy stuff up on the walls or in a cabinet.

Hey Ned, Don't feel too bad with you shop's progress.............

Mr Fitzgerald's shop build has been going on for at least 3 1/2 years.

Sorry Ken, I just couldn't resist a little good natured ribbing.;)

Hope you don't mind.:)

Hiya ken,

That's a nice looking place for your new turning studio and the mustard to live! You can never have too much light in a shop, at least not for my aging eyes...

It's about time, Fitz.  Looks like a great shop space. Glad to see it's finally coming together.

I need to do a similar revamping of my shop. We're going to be getting our electrical service panel upgraded, and I'm going to finally get a subpanel in the shop. That means I need to shuffle a lot of things around to create the necessary access for the new panel and outlets. Not looking forward to the process, but I'll reap the benefits of the result.

Alright Ken!

Sure is looking great!

I really agree with Don about the floors too, my concrete floors suck HUGE !!

Biggest mistake I've made in a LONG time was to NOT do the floors first, it's too late for me now, but for you, you can still do something about the floors, do it, do it now, or you will NOT be able to do it later!

You go ahead an jab Joe! I know where Carlyle is.....and where old 50 and new 50 are.........:D

Seriously,

It has been 3 1/2 years but for the 18 months I did nothing but turn. The LOML could have retired but she had the shell built and she's continued working to pay for it. I did the insulation except for the ceiling which I had blown in, the electrical (200 amp service with it's own meter) and all of the interior. The LOML had the natural gas furnace installed as a Christmas present. It's nice to see it finally coming together. All of the finishing materials including the electrical, insulation etc, we did on a cash basis. So when we retire in 2 years, it's paid for and so are the new tools.

Right now I'm taking a break from cleaning the gutters. I should have done it sooner but the neighbor's tree had finished it's fall shedding. Now there are leaves and water frozen in the gutters. At least I'm reducing the fodder for future iceblocks on the house and shop.

Hope to start unpacking stuff tonight?

Ken, I just saw a post at BT3 where a guy said his Pep Boys had a 2 ton engine hoist for about 65.00 after rebate. Might be better than renting!!! Worth a looksee to see if a local Pep Boys has the same offer. The poster wasn't sure if it was everywhere or not. Jim.

Just looked at the ad for my area and yours...looks like the lowest priced one is 105.00 after rebate. Looks like the one the BT3 poster saw is 145.00. May or may not be a rebate on that one. Jim.

UH.....Jim......this is Lewiston, Idaho......PEP boys?......I don't think so............

It is going to be put off some more. I did get the gutters cleaned out.....It's supposed to rain tomorrow.....a whole 1/4" but temps tomorrow night at 20º F..........

The good news....the specialist I'm seeing for my vertigo wrote me a prescription for some medicine for it. Since starting on it Monday, I haven't had a single vertigo attack! The horizon stays horizontal! Bad news.....you make many pit stops....and one of the side effects....dizziness....Yup....up down the ladder.....dizzy spells..stand up too fast...dizzy spells...but the horizon stays horizontal! With a little vigilence I managed to get the gutters on the house and the shop cleaned out for the winter.

The Little Giant Ladder that I was using as "the diving board" .....You should have heard it protest when it was used as just a common ladder today while cleaning the gutters!:rolleyes::

How close are you to Pallyup (spelling?) or Everett WA??:rofl: I plugged Lewiston ID in the the Pep Boys ad finder, it popped up several stores, I failed to look at what town...or state.:eek: Oh well, glad the meds are helping somewhat....think they might work for me??:D Jim.

This is Karl..........in the Dells............looking west:peek:..........admiring a bright............mostly completed..........SHOP. :thumb::congrats::clap:

You've done good son. I'm proud of ya, even if it did take you 18 months. ;) Ya gotta be getting antsy now to get the Mustard uncrated and spinning.

Perhaps a christening once the new toyls are up and running?
