my mother-in-law was looking for magnets for her refridgerator so i made her these from some scrap cocobolo. i used 3/8 diameter rare earth magnets set in a hole one half their thickness.

Now I know them rare earth magnets hold well, but did you just stick them to the spindle and turn away :D

How did you hold them for turning?

My pin jaws only go down to a 1" size for the internal expanding type of holding.......... :dunno:

I'll be curious to hear how you held them to the lathe to turn them, as they are rather small and thin.

Cheers!

i ordered a mandrel from csusa for turning inserts for their pill boxes. it is just a 3/8 shaft with a 1 1/2 x 1/4' thick disk on the end. i used turners double face tape to hold blank on. if you have access to a metal lathe the mandrel would be easy to make out of a piece of round stock.
