    Gift Cards

Thankfully, there are still some good people left in this world.

See, I have this little "wallet" in which I keep gift cards that I've received. At some point yesterday, I lost it. No big deal right? Probably some $20 or $50 cards in there. They were gifts anyway so it isn't like I really "lost" anything. Wrong. When I returned a boatload of flooring to Lowes a few weeks ago, they gave me a merchandise credit of $565 on one of those cards. In addition, I had a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble and a $25 Wawa gift card (Wawa's like 7-11 for those of you outside my area). In total, I ended up losing $640 when I dropped that little wallet. Ouch. Big time.

Well, my wife called Home Depot because she knew that I had gone there yesterday. Turns out they had my wallet and all the cards were in there. Went to pick it up and they were indeed all there. Now, I know the person who found it didn't realize there was THAT much in there since the amounts aren't printed on the cards. However, whoever found it could have easily just put them in his/her pocket and used them, since those things are just like cash.

Didn't really need to be losing that much money right now so I'm really thankful that a good samaritan did the right thing.

Good to see you got the cards back, Rob. I'm a firm believer in the "what comes around, goes around" theory, and it looks to me like you got a bit of payback for some of the good deeds you've done in the past.

You got lucky. I use one for gas but never put more than $100.00 on it. That's good for about 1 1/2 tanks of go juice.

You must have a small gas tank. $50 fill-ups have become pretty common with my SUV, and it doesn't have a remarkably big tank. It's about 19 gallons as I recall. I miss my 1990 Ford Bronco (totaled in a freeway wreck), but I don't miss the 32 gallon tank.

I'm glad your wallet was returned. I have heard of similar stories lately. Hopefully honesty and integrity are on the rise. Maybe we just hear of unhappy endings to situations like this more often than outcomes similar to yours.

I did say about 1 1/5 tanks. It is closer to 1 1/3. I have a 28 gal tank and try not to run dry too often.
Still, putting in $60.00 or so at a time hurts. I try not to look at the pump anymore. And, I stay at home as much as possible. Truck gets about 16 mpg.
