    Mukunoki Crotchwood WIP

In the next while, I'm going to be real busy with other things, so I thought I'd better get a few of the chunks of wood I recently got roughed out.

This piece was a crotch from the tree..........

I'd already started to rough it out when I remembered to take some pics

Sure nice to have the VS lathe, so I can sneak up on the best speed to rough it out at

As it was a crotch piece, I wanted to show off the wonderful grain in it, that I hoped was there, so I decided to make a nice little bowl.....

    Getting more bowl shaped.

    Now to the inside.

The piece is 20 cm in diameter (8") so I left the walls of the rough out about 2 cm thick (just over 3/4") and the bottom is a bit thinner than 2 cm.

Here you can see some of the nice figure that was hiding.

    A close up

It is now bathing in the DNA, and I'll pull it out in a day or two, wrap it up and turn it in a few months.

I really do not know what to expect with this crotchwood, it might crack and go all wonky on me, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Stu, looks like you got some great looking figure in the wood. Looking forward to seeing the finished bowl...

Some nice figure in that. You should have an interesting piece when it is finished. Looks a lot like maple from here.
