Box Swap (closed)

OK I am pondering doing this, but the rookie I am, I'm courious about boxes. Does anyone have some pics of some they have made in the past they would share?

Here are a couple of very simple boxes I made a long time ago...

Cherry on the left, Walnut on the right. I'd sure like to be able improve upon these...

Hi All

I am in whatever is decided. If other Canadians chime in on this we can make it more cost effective by doing the same as the USA and using perolator fixed cost shipping box by staying this side of the border. If no Canadians chime in on this I am still in for a penny in for a pound.

Without wanting to upset the concept it would be a great idea given interest to modify this slightly and change from box to frame.

Some time back one of our woodworking magazines had a build a frame for a serviceman project that I participated in. This not only provided the opportunity to build something meaningful but also for a good cause. What about something similar. Sure was a nice gesture to let these heros know we are thinking of them.

Rob,
frames huh... hmmm.

I'm all for giving back to the armed forces, but for now, I'd like to just share with the forum members who participate in the swap. What they do with the box from there is up to them.

As for the shipping across borders, let's hope we get enough (two, three, six? ) up north who want to take part, then we'll pick someone (preferably smart enough to suggest in the first place) to coordinate the direct post thing... hey, that would be You!

I'm keeping a list of all who are interested, and will work up the 'schedule' of who will send to whom etc...

I'm sure you can do these. As a matter of fact, the Dec 2008 issue of FWW has an article on making boxes. These boxes were made using these same techniques, basically, although I made these probably at least 7 years ago? I'm bad with time. I'm lucky if I can remember my wifes birthday and anniversary...

I cant make a box, but Ill be more than happy to participate in a chair swap.
Now that's funny right there. :p If I can make boxes, you can. (The ones in the pics were made less than a year after I got started back into woodworking...true rookie work.)

I'd join in, but I've already got more on my plate than I can fit, so I'll just sit back and cheer the rest of you guys on.

YOUR CAN NEVER HAVE TO MUCH WALNUT!!
Or cherry for that matter.

What are you thinking??

:D

well when your wood storge has two sections full of the darn stuff and the other hidden storage area has aprox 2000bf of the stuff its to much and the cherry is ahead of that.. been usin it for chicken barns and pig pens latly:rofl:

OK folks,
here's the deal, I'm going to leave the chime in list until next Friday.

Timeframe, I realize that the holidays are coming up, and we're all busy, so let's set the date for completion at November 16th. That will allow us to have 'enough' days even for us weekend warriors to get some shop days in.

The list of folks who are 'in'
Yours truly.
Brent Dowell
Toni Ciuraneta
Rennie Heuer
Nancy Laird
Rob Keeble
Tom Niemi
Don Baron
Jon Lanier (if nov 16th isn't too tight of a contstraint)
Larry Merlau for supplies...(finished box too Larry?)

anyone else, let me know and I'll add you to the list.

Just a reminder on Size. The Flat rate (shoebox sized) box is (11" x 8.5" x 5.5"), at least according to the USPS.

Awesome. Looking forward to this, I'm getting started tomorrow...

i thought we were gonna send the stuff to someone to make a box kinda like a heath kit???? i am busy doing tree work and cant meet your deadline ned:( but i could send along enough parts to someone who hasnt got the parts,, hey tom neihme/ i know what we can do, you can use my shop to make your box and i will give you the materails

larry that will work, I'll line you up with someone who could use some nice wallynut or cheeery wood. I was just askin' about the finished product.

As for anyone else a 'box kit' will work just fine too, please PM me if your preference is to Give OR Receive a kit vs a box so I can match them up with the appropriate folks

We can work something out larry, you KNOW that I am going to be tapping in to your knowledge and expertise on this project. this is a new and undone project for me, SO BE PREPARED. as for supplies, I think I already have picked out the wood from "the shed" :thumb:
