I have a good start to this bed, gluing up the blanks from my stash of 5/4, 8/4 Ash on the weekend. Tonight I got started on the big bottom section, one done so far.

Drilled holes on the lathe as deep as I could get the forstner bit in. I make the pin slightly undersize. Next I have to mount the chuck and part the waste on the tops. Test fit of one post.

this weekend, I want to try and make a bed roll for the footboard. Made a paper pattern to see how it would look.

Got both pieces turned this morning, and once sanded I can drill the hole and assemble the 60" long bed roll.

you sure do make the lathe look like a useful tool in your work bryan but i still wont dip into that pool.. i will just have to have chuck do it for me someday

We just seen the shaker pics Jim posted and i noticed in those a kinda his and her bed design, now i see your spindle indicates two different sides of the bed
Did you model those from the tops of chess pieces Bryan cause one end looks very much like a pawn or bishop top and the other has the making of the king

Made the 2 side rails & 1 footboard from 2x8+ stock. Finished out at 1.5" thick x 8" . I laid out the headboard using 5/4 stock planed to 7/8".

Got the curves cut out on headboard, trim piece glued on
