I've had on my list to make a few tools and jigs to use around the shop. I thought something like that might make for a good swap here on the forum. So what I'm proposing is that not only do those that participate make a jig or tool for themselves, but make two, keep one, ship one to another swap member (assigned by a non-participant), you'll get a shop made tool or jig in return.
It doesn't even have to be a tool or jig, perhaps a coat hook or something that makes working in the shop more enjoyable.
Here are a few ideas I came across:
Auto center scribes: http://www.newwoodworker.com/autoscribes.html
Clamping Cauls: http://www.newwoodworker.com/cauls.html
Push sticks: http://www.newwoodworker.com/pushsticks.html
Hand Plane: http://www.popularmechanics.com/home...orking/1273456
Marking gauge: http://www.woodmagazine.com/woodwork...marking-gauge/
Marking knife: http://www.woodsmithshop.com/downloa...rkingknife.pdf
RULES:
Deadline of sending out your jig/tool during the days of of June 25th to June 30th. That would be 7 - 8 weeks.
Participation will be based on a poll, either in or out, just vote that you're "in" and your name will be on the list. If you're not sure or want to proto-type first, you have up until June 21st to vote yourself in.
Anyone can join up until June 21st, but items must be mailed the week of June 25th to June 30th. You also need to PM me your mailing address or send it to webmaster@familywoodworking.org by June 22nd.
We'll PM each of you the name/address selected for you on or around June 22nd, that way we don't have any preconceptions of who we are building the jig or tool for, you wont know until it's time to send them.
No posting pics of your tool/jig, recipient is responsible for the first glimpse of it for the forum. After that you can post any build pics you may have. Keep in mind, I'm sure some of us would love to see a build thread of the jig or tool, so document as you go and perhaps do that.
You must build two, one for yourself, and one for a recipient.
No size, no cost limit, it's what you are willing to spend for materials and shipping.
Lastly, You must have fun.
