Returning Big Box Warped Wood for Refund

....He then flung(yes, flung) the box 10 feet towards the shopping carts and snarled at the register girl/return desk to refund my money.(it was a while ago, I don't remember the exact words, but that was the way it went)....
Ask for the manager. Ask that they review the stop loss cameras for the man's behavior. If the manager doesn't respond appropriately, tell him you are going to notify corporate of the employees violent behavior. No business can tolerate that kind of crap and you don't have to either. He wouldn't have a job the next day in my business.

Im not sure if he was having a bad day or just was a miserable person, but I figured at his age if he was working, he probably needed the income, and Im not about to get anyone fired for a mistake of behavior.
In the end, I got my money back, so I was made full again. That was all I wanted.

Should of brought it back to Lowes. They take anything back, even stuff from HD and other stores.

I got called to the return desk the other day. A contractor brought back a portable PC table saw that he bought last June. He is a siding contractor. He said the tool gets used all day 5 days a week and gets toted around in the back of his pick up truck. The crank that raises and lowers the blade was so full of vinyl siding and cement board dust that a gear broke when he was trying to raise the blade. He wanted a new saw. I told him that there was PC repair place right down the street but he insisted (it was out of warrenty) that it should of lasted longer and wanted a free replacement. I passed him onto the manager and they immediately gave him a new saw without any question.
We have theives that steal TS blades and planer knives and bring them back the same day for store credit.
Lowes is so afraid of ticking off a customer that they are willing to take anything back for any reason. Totally ridiculous in my opinion.

That's true and totally frustrating to those of us who cared about customer service and/or the store's profitablility... I only worked at Lowe's for about 6 months, but we had a customer who on a regular basis would go to the Cleveland, TN store, steal hands full of stainless steel bolts, washers, etc... then bring them back to my store and want "his money back"... I'm thinking he made his living that way.

also when I was there I was told one shift to put cables around all of the power tools out on display.... they were long enough for customers to pick up the tool, handle it, check it out, but not walk away with it.... someone complained about the cable.... next day I was sent back around with a cable cutter and removed all the cables... the guy who complained probably wanted to steal one, but couldn't because it was cabled down.

this has taken a turn completely away from where it started?// as for the thievery why not use the tabs that alert until they have been turned off that are on most products?

Last night about 20 minutes before closing I was watching a guy walk up and down the tool aisles. He had a hammer in his hand. The guy was pretty sketchy looking so I followed him around a bit and stopped and talked to him for awhile. He wasn't the least bit nervous about me keeping an eye on him. He finally left and bought the hammer. The rest rooms are right at the exit door and after he left he went into one of the stalls in the mens room. After he left one of the other employees came out with 4 or 5 of the security tabs he found on the floor in the stall. The guy stashed the stuff under his jacket and removed the security tags before he exited and didn't set off the alarm.
All the security measures we have only keeps honest folks honest.
It has been a real eye opener working here on just how dishonest some people can be.

We sell small plastic bags or screws and stuff. There are 4 or 5 items in the bag. They cost $1.18 each. People will open the bag, take out the 1 screw they need and put the bag back. It just blows my mind.

The scum that steal stuff and then return it get a gift card for the amount of the return. They then sell the gift card on Craigs List for a discount. Like Chuck said, they are probably making a decent living doing this. The chances of getting caught are slim to none because Lowes doesn't question them and employees are not allowed to stop anyone who is stealing stuff. They don't even call the police.

Several years ago I was doing a tub surround in tile. I bought more than I thought I needed so I wouldn't run out. It was 4x4 tile and I bought like 3 boxes. I used one and about half of another. It was cheaper to buy it by the box than by the piece. When I took it back the guy started counting the tiles in the open and unopened box. He was going to give me the per-piece price for the tile. I showed him my receipt with the tile price for the box. He said it didn't matter and kept counting. I told him that the return price was more than I had paid for all the tile. He still didn't care. I tried about three times to explain it to him, but he wouldn't listen. I finally took the money. I still feel bad about it.

ah, retail business as usual.

We had to move half the items in my store behind counters or out of customers reach, because if its small enough, it gets lifted.
