Master Bath Remodel

Yesterday I got each of the drawers cut down to size. Ran them through the table saw (using an older saw blade I keep on hand for when I have to cut through brads), smacked off the waste from the drawer side, cleaned them up with a chisel and glued/nailed them back up. Other than twice as many nail holes, you'd not know that they were cut-down.

I spent the rest of the afternoon installing them. Next is to make up door and drawer frames. I'm planning to glue up the drawer frames as one big panel, then cut them each out to keep a nice grain pattern between all.

Today I finished up setting the tile around the base of the tub where it meets the floor, will grout it tomorrow and get everything caulked this week. Also planning to pickup some base trim tomorrow and get of the trim painted and ready to install. I may also sand down the base cabinets and try to seal them with a couple of coats of the de-waxed shellac.

With spring starting up, been busy and not quite finished up the vanity door and drawer fronts, so spent the day getting them milled out.

The 1/4" cherry ply had some good figure, so spent some time and probably had some extra waste, but so far got some decent book matching done between the left and right panels. The left and right side panels are being glued up as two larger panels, then I'll split them in to individual panels.

I do see a shoulder plane in my future, got the tenons a bit tight, but the newly sharpened bench plane and chisels did the job.

After I got my DIY Shoulder/Chisel plane built, I cleaned up some of the tenons, frames dry fitted, and got the rest of the panels cut out. Still need to glue everything up.

Thank you fellas. I'll be doing glue-ups over the next few nights, hopefully sanding and getting finish on this weekend after some test fitting. Also need to build the hair dryer/curling iron pull-out, may knock that out tonight.

Had a little free time last night, so brought down the linen closet doors and drawer fronts. They fit well, but will probably be putting one of those newly sharpened planes to use to even out the gaps on the top couple of drawers

Now that I have the TS sled, I was able to cut out all my drawer panels. Also finished fitting the doors and cutting bevels on them to close correctly. Just need to get some sanding done this week and get some finish on them.

Getting close, got the last coat of poly on, shelving brackets installed, all the doors and drawer fronts installed (well, except one, still need to build a hair dryer pull-out). Also still need to cut and install crown, it's stained and poly'd already though.

Still need to do some minor adjustments and install magnetic catches for the doors.

I took the toilet paper holder off, was surprised at how much the cabinets had darkened over the past few months. The doors sitting in the dark shop were a bit lighter, but not that bad.

That may get done, but would want to do one that didn't require the roller like it has now. Though...my wife can't seem to change even that one. She'll leave the empty roll on it and just use some off a roll in the drawer next to the toilet rather than changing it.

The one there does match all the other hardware in the bath though.

I promise I'll let this thread die soon, just a few more things to get done. ;)

Tonight I installed the hair dryer/curling iron pull-out on the right side of the vanity. Still need to run an electrical plug for it, but will get that done next week when I tear open the wall on the other side to start on a built in there. The idea is that the slot in the middle will give a place for the cords to drop down into when she puts them away, seems to work ok.

The electrical will be mounted on the bottom half of the pull-out, May wire up a 60 minute timer for them as well though all of her irons do have auto-shut offs built in.

Still have some crown and a few pieces of trim to install, some mag catches (I did do some door adjustments tonight), and caulk around the base, and touch up paint here and there.

Well, other than some paint touch-up, putting electrical on the pull-out, and filling some brad holes, it's done! Got the crown up, mag catches installed, and final caulking done.

A great project Darren and the details set your upgrades apart. I hope LOML doesn't see that blow dryer/curling iron pullout . Well done.
