Kitchen Hutch - Build Thread - Done

In my relatively small shop, things get spread out all over when I am preparing to finish.

This is only the first coat which is a soak-in coat. The finish is basically clear with that amber hue that oils have.

I have most of the day to apply the additional coats. I got roped into some sort of dinner party later on. This will work out as we are having great finishing weather. I apply 3 coats (wiping down between coats) and then let it set overnight. I'll apply 3 or 4 more before I let it set for final curing.

Thanks Larry. Pecan has quite a range of colors. I wanted to use the light through dark figure without going too wild so I tried to (with a couple purposeful exceptions like the front legs) ease from one tone through the next when I selected my parts.

Glenn,
Since I have a very useful outfeed table now, why don't you keep the adjustable height table in pic 5.

I figure that you really enjoy that table. Since you never gave me any trouble as a child; you should have a reward.

Enjoy,
Dad

Am I using nepotism (I know I am using the word wrong; but you get the idea.) if I think your work is great?

What a web of lies :D. I'll take you up on that although, as you used to describe it . . . terribly useful but, often in the way.

Carcass and drawers/pulls finished and waxed.

Tomorrow I'll rope a buddy into helping me haul it into the house and I'll add the pullout and top once in place. I am already starting on the upper section. I'll post pics of the fully assembled lower 'in situ' once its there.

OK, the lower section is in the kitchen. Now that I suddenly have some room, I am busy breaking down parts for the upper section :).

I just realized the hand-me-down kitchen table I got from a room mate back in the silicon valley days has really got to go .

She's looking good Glenn.
Not to be a stick in the mud but I would vote for a 400lb. Stickely 599 trestle table...:D

"Stick in the mud" . . . "Stickely" . . . Bwaa-haa-haa-haaa :thumb:.

Thanks Gary. This one has taken awhile but, I'm like the mechanic who can't seem to get any work done on his own car. :)

A lot of sawing up parts and gluing up blanks but, not much to show for it till this morning. Once I had the blanks broken down things started moving again. M&T joints and floating panels make up these left and right upper sides.

I hope to knock out more frame parts, door panels and some drawer parts before the weekend gets away from me. I should probably go ahead and oversize-cut the maple boards for the back so they can get comfy before I mill them to final size, T&G and bead them.
