Pardon if you've already seen this guy's "work", but I'm appalled at the blatant ignorance this "expert" demonstrates with hand and power planes. I'm posting this as a public service, in hopes that it saves at least one newbie from actually trying to use the tools the way this guy does. He's a safety -- and technique -- train wreck.

And for more giggles (or shudders, depending on your point of view) check out his use of a tablesaw.

Expert, my eye.

Who said you can never have too many clamps? This guy doesn't need any!

I agree Rennie. I've only been wood working for a few years. But even the very first time I picked up a hand planer and looked at the wood I was going to work on, the first thing I thought was, I need to somehow clamp this wood down.

And this guy calls himself an expert :dunno:

He is planing the wood towards his other hand which is trying desperately to hold the wood steady.

Saw this the other day. Since all you guys that have all of those LN and LV planes that are obviously worthless, please pm me. I'll take those off your hands!

Honestly, I think this an hoax just to stir up the sort of reactions we are all having.

I find it hard to believe, and even harder the ratings that the video has.

It reminds me another hoax called "bonsai Kittens" that created quite a big uproar as well.

I suspected the same thing, but I can't help but wonder if ExpertVillage is opening themselves up to legal liability issues by having this type of bad information on their site.

I will admit, though, that for a long time I though all hand planes cut as poorly as this guy's did. Still, I knew better than to put my hand in front of a cutting tool. That's just plain stupid.

Nope they claim he is indeed a master! :dunno:

Robert J. McMahon is a master carpenter with over 20 years of experience. He has worked on many restoration projects of old, period homes in the Philadelphia area as well as ecologically friendly and environmentally clean homes in Massachusetts. He has a passion for building furniture.

Down towards the bottom of he page.

I find it hard to believe that this guy is a master carpenter because he is
not only unsafe but he is using cheaper equipment than I would think a
master carpenter would have plus he appears to be working out of his
garage.
