Thanks everyone... I am excited about this piece.

Tools: Rikon Mini Lathe, Nova Chuck, Monster Straight Tool, Sorby Master Hollow Tool, Harbor Freight 1inch skew that I put on a Lancer grind (outside in for Hollowing). And because this is "Spalted" wood I used a 2" sanding pad with my Drill. 60, 80, 120, 180, 220 & 320 grits.

Finish: 2 coates of Shellac. Two coats of Wipe on Poly (glossy) and then buffed and waxed.

Beautiful wood and the form is great too!

That shape would lend itself to a contrasting collar as well...just a little thought for the many more that I'm sure are on the way now.

Great color and markings in the wood... Spalted Maple makes for such dramatic pieces... really like working with it.
