working on an idea for a co-worker, he wants a wooden crosscribb board. in order to save money, went with glued up aspen blanks. he wants it to be close to the color in the picture. never worked with aspen before. tried light, medium, and dark watco danish oils, but, splotchy, and looks like junk in the tests. may wind up going to a slightly darker wood, but that means i would be doing the glue ups, and the shop is not ready to be opened. any ideas?crosscribb.jpg

Haven't worked with aspen but that looks a lot like a spray on lacquer finish to me. Maybe give Krylon spray lacquer a shot (it's a bit high in VOC but not much worse than danish oil imho.. might still be an issue given your temperature situation)?

not necessarily... I have used it on a number of occasions and depending on how you finish.
