I have a cousin in law. He has a daughter. He recently also acquired a grand-daughter ..... "Daisy May".
We can buy "things" and things like wagons are available cheaply built and cheaply sold, but I wanted this to be "Daisy May's" personal wagon. So I built this wagon myself using only wood that went thru' my sawmill. I bought the running gear from a Canadian Mennonite source because I have seen their running gear and it's SOLID.
- the sides are Birch from Northern Ontario, spalted in my log pile and bookmatched if anyone cares to look
- the tray is Birch slats from the same log, also spalted and bookmatched from the centre out.
- the front and speaders for the sides are Ash from southern Ontario out of the first truck load of logs I ever bought to run thru my sawmill
- the supports underneath are Tamarack from a friend's bush just down the road from my own.
- the finish is Epifanes oil and oil based paint, multiple coats.
- the lettering is from a set of letter/number stencils that I had made for this project (and that I hope I will use again !!)
Some of the wood, milled, resawn, acclimatising ::
The tray ::
I had sold my electric forklift/workbench, so to do this project I had to build a work bench .... rough build, sawmill lumber, but functional ::
The tray and sides, dry fit ::
Tray, sides and stake sides, dry fit ::
Finishing in process ::
The finished product, one side ::
The other side ::
