    polish bean soup mk 2

Looks like a fabulous bowl of soup. Love the rich broth in which all the goodies are floating. We made a big pot of chicken and rice soup which is about as plain Jane as you can get but it is delicious and freezes well.

    Good-da Friday 10/9/2026

Weather has been lovely save the day when there was wind and rain from Isaias' passing. West of us there were 5 tornados they report in the news. Sorry for anyone affected. Here we got about a 1/2" of rain. Just enough to settle the dust. It is shop time all the time when the weather is like...

    Moroccan Chickpea Soup

That is a fine looking bowl of soup. All you need is some crusty bread which I see you have. That broth soaked end is one of my favorite bites.

    Lacquer sanding sealer

Light color of what? The wood? The paint? You can buy some wonderful sprays. I like to use Krylon triple thick gloss glaze for protection on some of my pieces. It does a wonderful job of coating the wood. I can't tell you what it will do over paint because the solvents might react. I suggest...

    had a bad day yesterday....

Never any fun being broken down by the road under the best of circumstances. I remember a college trip to the beach when we broke down in the middle of the night somewhere near where they filmed Deliverance or Pumpkinhead or maybe the Chainsaw Massacre. We were on a two lane road in the swamps...

Today is the 1st Friday in the busy month of October

Nice quiet week here. Weather went from cool to hot. Last two days were in the 90's preceded by highs in the 70's and low 80's. If you live around here just wait a minute and you will see a change in the weather. Spent quite a bit of time in the shop. Completed my quaich; no pictures yet...

I love Fall, because it's soup time!

We love soup and this one looks fabulous; lot of different textures, color and a rich broth. I mean, it is the broth that we really love about soup isn't it. In lieu of ketchup try adding a tablespoon or two of tomato paste. It adds richness to just about anything that it goes in. If you can...

    Carnitas

Toni, I am sorry to hear that. Again, the spices are subtle in this recipe but if you react poorly to them you could leave them out. The meat would still be tasty. We think it is quite good in sandwiches with mustard.

    Carnitas

Since this is braised the spices are quite subtle. There is just a hint of heat. You get just a tiny bit of heat but you get the flavor through and through. The overwhelming flavors are of roasted pork and the salsa verde, depending on how much you add.

    Carnitas

Wifey and I are big fans of carnitas. This week I made carnitas for the second time using the recipe in this email. It is delicious if you like braised pork. I cooked an 8.7 pound shoulder roast this week using this recipe (adjusting the ratio for the spices accordingly). The meat was tender...

Friday 9-25, last Friday of he month.

I have not only given up everything I enjoy; I have also given up things I am thinking about doing for fun. And I have had to renege on remembering things I enjoyed when I was younger. The mere thought of doing some of those things hurts these days.

    NorEaster

6 miles to my driveway from the interchange of I-95 and US 64. 64 is the longest highway in N.C. at 604 miles from Murphy in the west to Manteo in the east. I have driven every mile of it.

Friday 9-25, last Friday of he month.

With the passing of the nor'easter came winter weather! 🥶 It was 53 and windy this morning and it felt like it was winter outside. I don't do winter very well. It is after noon and the temperature is only 62. Brrrr!!! Turning some white wenge stacking bowls today. Didn't know white wenge...

    NorEaster

Nope, I am 100 miles inland as the crow flies. The weather is much worse on the Outer Banks. The coastal plain where I live is only 20 or 30 feet above sea level so hurricane and nor'easter winds do not meet with much resistance and blow almost as hard inland as they do on the beach. I am just...

    NorEaster

This nor'easter is centered just off our coast at the moment. It is quite windy here with intermittent showers. The winds are gusty and quite cool. It is far enough off shore to minimize its effect here at the house. That said, there are already limbs down, pine straw everywhere and trash...

    Oven Baked Chicken Wings

I love chicken wings. I remember when they were so cheap we would use them for crab bait. Not anymore, these days chicken wings cost as much as prime rib. I have a chicken wing recipe that starts in the Instant Pot and ends up in the oven. The wings get cooked and sauced up in the Pot and...
