    Buffet/bookcase finally finished

Seems like I've been working on this forever, but its finally done. LOML wanted a piece of furniture that would store cookbooks, hiding the really ugly ones, and provide a place to keep a hot casserole or two next to the dining table I built last summer. It had to have the same finish the...

What ever happened to the rumored upgrade of micro-jig's (company that makes the Grippper) splitter? It seemed like everyone was sure that it was right around the corner six months ago. for the life of me though, I can't find one anywhere, even on their website... Sure wish I could I bent...

Almost there Well, Class is over. We made ten benches. There was a lot of drama. One of the students announced that he had been diagnosed with leukemia and his doctor wanted him to drop the class and start chemo ASAP. We finished his bench, and hope that he gets to use it for many years...

Hi all, Thought some of you might find this interesting. I'm taking a class at Santa Fe Community College on how to make a workbench. Advice on purchasing a bench vise??

Hi all, I am going to build a workbench soon and need to decide which vises to use. Any happy campers out there? Anyone have a vise that is always a pleasure to use? What features are important to you in a vise? On the other hand, anything to avoid? I do only flat work. A garage shop...

    Not exactly fireworks, but...

Got a microburst with big marble sized hail. Boy was it loud! Way louder than the July 4 fireworks. Temperature went from 102 degrees to 69 in ten minutes. We were hoping for some rain to cool things off - be careful what you wish for. At least I hadn't started the barbecue yet.

    Oh-oh! What have I done?

This part of my walnut finishing schedule always freaks me out. I start with Solarlux Lemon Yellow dye and everything turns this gosh awful shade of yellow. I've used the process (from Terri Masachi's Foolproof Wood Finishing) several times, so in my head I know it will be ok, but in my heart...

    Finally finished the dining table

I promised SWMBO a new dining table for Thanksgiving, last thanksgiving:eek: Finally done and she is happy. She even suggested that I probably could have finished it much sooner if I had more Festools! What a lady! The wood is walnut with lots of sapwood. Finish is solarlux lemon yellow...

    Had to laugh...

Here's a clip from an ad in the Albuquerque Craigslist, emphasis is mine: "Sears Craftsman 10" table saw. Sturdy on 4 legs, 2 extender sides included. Solid construction. Only seen light use....mostly cut cardboard. Works great. " I wonder if it could cut wood, too?

Don't Put Off DC Filter Maintenance

Here's a cautionary note for those of you out there who, like me, are using equipment you are not very familiar with.... I got an Oneida 3 HP cyclone a year and a half ago - love it. It really sucks, in a good way. I was always a little puzzled, though, that the huge canister filter hanging...

    Cow Pies in fiberboard?

Get that mask out! Michigan (it figures:rolleyes: ) State University researchers are confident they can replace the saw dust in fiberboard with sterilized cow manure. Not supposed to smell -- yeah, right. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17627001/

The name "Starrett" pretty much says it all - it's been the standard for accuracy for a hundred years. :thumb: Bought a few of these for a group of us and wound up with an extra. Amazon sells it for $73 and change. I'll beat their price by $5 and throw in free shipping via Priority Mail (US...

How does that square peg in a round hole thing work again?

Hi all, Should have thought this through earlier in the project, but here I am. I'm making a tabletop with breadboard ends. The tenons are integral to the top (loose tenons would have made several things easier:doh: ). The mortises are cut into the breadboard. I want to pin the breadboard...
