11/29/24 GOOD FRIDAY MORNING

I'll be driving back down to the Valley, I spent Turkey day with someone special but now its time for me to head back home and she's headed over to Cali, Nothing planned for the rest of the week end, I may go oiut on the Harley for a ride tomorrow then Sunday it back to my volunteering at the veterans center.

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving day with the whole family and grandkids. Talked to my older sister in Australia. Had a nice conversation on Messenger on facebook. All in all a delightful day with not to much over stuffing. Smoked turkey breast came out great. Used Hey grill hey brine and rub.
This past Tuesday did move the grass and leaves for the first time since August. Grass not over grown mostly just to mulch up the leaves. Not as many leaves as in the past, they are smaller and not as plentiful. Don't know if it was the drought or wind blew them into someone elses yard. I don't care it's done for the season.
Everyone have a safe and healthy weekend and more.
David

It's our 46th anniversary Monday and we are headed to Bethlehem pa tomorrow possibly tonight until next Thursday or Friday
It's our favorite northeast casino and we have the presidential suite (more sq footage then my house) until Thursday
Really looking forward to getting away
Tomorrow and part of Sunday we will probably hit some stores and get in some holiday sales
I babied my back all week so I'm hoping it isn't a problem but I'm taking a heating pad and tens machine just in case along with Motrin and stronger
I'm not letting anything ruin this trip

Had a nice quiet Thanksgiving with a delicious honey ham, my wife's sweet potatoes with pineapple and apples and a green bean casserole. It was a very pleasant change from a turkey although we do love turkey and will undoubtedly cook one for Christmas. Can't make turkey and rice soup without leftover turkey don't you know.

Today I am making a big pot of corn, tomato and okra soup. It has been simmering on the burner since about nine this morning. The smell is mouthwatering and in just a few minutes I will be having a big bowl of it with saltines. Growing up my mother always had corn, tomato and okra soup in the freezer and served it as the vegetable with a dinner of fatback and homemade biscuits. Gee, golly whiz that is some fine eating. My wife had never had that particular combination in a soup but she now sees the value in this simple recipe. We don't have it with fatback but rather with pork chops.

Speaking of fatback, I was in a barbecue restaurant that has a huge buffet with all sorts of wonderful dishes including pulled pork and chopped barbecue along with many different vegetables cooked country style such as collards, field peas, green beans, Brussels sprouts with bacon, etc. etc. They always have a big tray of freshly fried fatback and I almost always take a little bowl and put 4 or 5 pieces in it to munch with some hushpuppies.

The last time I was there I had my little bowl full of fatback sitting on the table and was eating from my well laden plate. An old man with a cane walked by my table and when he was close enough he reached down and took a nice piece of fatback off the top of the bowl and walked on munching it. Can't say I have had that happen before. I guess when you get to a certain age you can get away with stuff like that.

One of these days when I am in that restaurant I am going to walk by someone's table and take their bowl of blackberry cobbler.... :p

Had a good family gathering yesterday at one of my nephew's house. My niece and her husband are in town from San Diego, and my older sister is here from Los Angeles. (Haven't seen her since my dad passed away almost 9 years ago. Due to the nature of her job, she's not been able to get out here until now.) Will be doing more family visiting today, but first on the agenda is a trip to Urgent Care to see if I can get some relief from a cough I've had for a few days. I have a whole bunch of nothing else planned for the weekend aside from watching the Formula 1 Quatar Grand Prix and its associated practice sessions, qualifying, and sprint race.

I am in process of rewiring my cnc machine and upgrading to Centroid Acorn

My machine currently looks like a spaghetti factory exploded in middle of my shop. What a mess.

I also have wires all over my workbence all connected to motor drivers, estop, limit switches and stepper motors.
Whats up with the rewire? Need it for Centroid? Just curious.

I don't have much in the way of plans other than straightening up my music room a bit to get ready for some folks to stop by and start jamming next week.

We had a quiet Turkey day planned, but my wife’s mother ended up in the hospital again. Drove up there that morning, and other than gas stations, nothing was open, not even a McDonalds, so gas station food was our breakfast/lunch. We did break away and found a diner open to get a decent meal at for supper.

Her mom did get released today. We’re back home, and found our geothermal is acting up again, turned on the propane heater/stove to warm up the house. I’ll get a tech out to look at the geothermal next week.

We actually have a new propane tank coming next week too, so working on digging the trenches for the lines tomorrow. Also stopped and bought the toilet, vanity/sink, and shower rod for the guest house bath. May pickup what I need to get the water line connected at the house tomorrow.

Thanksgiving morning the wife and I hiked up behind the house in the snow. It is a trail we usually snowshoe up. For some reason, I thought we could just hike up. It had been very cold and I thought maybe the crust would support us. Not so, as there was 12" of snow. I didn't want to go back to the house and get the snowshoes and we struggled on with me breaking trail uphill. We got about halfway with our usual hike before exhausted we turned back. What a workout! When I got back, I was soaked with sweat. Not a good thing. I should have peeled off layers as I went.

Yesterday, I spent tearing my small workshop space apart looking for those rifflers. Now I can reorganize everything. It was needing it anyway. Winter is my shop time and I have some actual woodworking projects in mind.

It’s a nice fall morning here and it’s looking like a day to catch up on some of the outdoor jobs. I haven’t gathered up any leaves yet. Firewood load #2 of 5 is on the dump trailer (about a cord and a half) so that might get thrown in the basement.
Lots of work everywhere I look, so have to focus on one at a time!
Be safe and healthy!
Happy belated Thanksgiving, southern friends.

So around 2 months ago we decided to go to windcreek casino in Bethlehem pa for our anniversary
We like the area the food the stores and of course the casino
But I wanted the best room the hotel had to offer
When I logged in to book they wanted close to 300 a night for the presidential suite
So I called the call center which I'm pretty sure is in Alabama and got a supervisor and basically begged and pleaded with her
I told her look how many people from Long Island do you think have visited both of your casinos in wetumpka and Montgomery Alabama
We have and we are good patrons of your brand
She finally agreed to get the rate down to 125 per night which is great

So when I checked in today the check in person said please wait a moment and left and disappeared into the back
She came back a few minutes later with a card and a gift bag of chocolate covered pretzels

I was impressed as most casinos don't give you the time of day these days after pandemic
Comps are stingy and food has skyrocketed in casinos

It's just a nice touch a bit of class
