I haven't turned anything in at least a month, but here are a few from the not so distant past. A burr oak crotch, some torched burr oak and a trio of maple, ash and walnut.

Good to see you're still turning some nice stuff, Jeff. :thumb: They're all very nice, but I think I like the torched oak one the most out of this batch.

On the torched oak, do you do anything to stabilize the burned wood after so it doesn't rub off to much?

The live edge piece is kinda cool!

Thanks all!

Ryan, after I torch it I rub it real well with a mixture of mineral oil/beeswax and torch it again. Once it flames out I rub in another coating of the mineral oil/beeswax and then buff that out real well with a cloth.

Thanks it looks fairly "solid" so I was wondering. I'm guessing the beeswax saturation ought to do that. Interesting to know (y)
I've used spray shellac to stabilize burned wood while I was turning it, followed by spray lacquer as a finish coat after the piece was done. Here's a piece of manzanita burl that came from a wildfire in Malibu that I used that combination on. I needed something I could spray so I could get it down into the cracks.
