Bandsaw speed?

Today I've changed my bandsaw blade and I remembered that my bandsaw has variable speed, I have always used it as it came from factory, but I wonder if some of may cuts would benefit of using a different speed.
For instance what speed is best for resawing a high or a low one.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Toni, Was your bandsaw sold as a dual purpose saw that could cut either wood or metal? Seems like your range covers them both. High speed for wood and low speed for metal. Maybe this will help.

My 14" Powermatic came factory set-up for about 3000 feet (912 meters) per minute. That seems to be the 'standard.' My 16" Laguna runs at about the same speed.

My 14" Rikon runs about the same speed as Jims, it also a 2 speed with a slower speed of just about 1/2 that. Slower speeds, as Ted said, are better for hard dense wood or metal. Mine always runs at the higher speed, I don't think I would ever cut metal on mine.
