barber's bench

more work on the mirror today. got the mortises on the legs, and the tenons on the stretcher cut today. trimmed the sides of the mirror frame, and it looks as good as i thought it would. finished up today by doing a test assembly of the mirror and base.

thanks! not too hard to make, one inch between lines, then 45 degree angles between them. i like batching them for the horizontal cuts, then the angles on the bandsaw. that way, when the support rests on the supports, they are at the same level. second time doing them, the first time was with the kitchen pantry.

sort of what pop said bill. so i threw in a 12 pack of coke as well. no room for anything else. also picked up a thermometer for the shop. when i put it up an hour ago, it was still 90 degrees in there.

Looks like an essential machine.... just no room in my shop for one.

I've had a thermometer in my shop from day one... didn't go out yesterday, but Thursday it got up to about 95 in the shop, even though it sits in the shade of four trees, an oak to the west, an elm to the east, another oak to the south west and a holly & cedar on the south east corner.

not enough time today for everything. got the sides trimmed to length, and ready for routing the rabbets for the drawer frames. giving the parts for the mirror and frame another day, tomorrow morning, the first coat of shellac. got the bottom shelves tacked to the shelf frames, and cut the parts for the four adjustable shelves, glue up is tomorrow morning.

put the last coat of shellac on the mirror frame and stand today. should be ready for assembly tomorrow. got a bunch of stuff done on the case. routed the rabbets for the back, the rabbets and dadoes for the upper and lower frames. laid out the positions for the dadoes in the lower frame for the inner sides to fit into. found that one of the inner sides had split along the glue line for almost a foot. had enough left over to make a new side. also, cut the saw tooth guides to length, and cut the frame supports too.

i must have been dead on my feet when i got home last night. had to rebuild the bottom shelf parts, nothing good about them, new ones much better. took the new side out of the clamps, and trimmed the old side to size. routed the dadoes for the new sides to fit the bottom of the lower frame. started doing another test fit, and decided, what the heck, did the test fit, and set it up on it's own 2 feet, then set the top, and back splash boad on the top. even with the removal of a little over an inch in height, it is still plenty tall. all that with it being a genteel 92 degrees in the shop. now on to fitting out the drawers, and doors.
