Boxes for grand daughters

I've had 2 blocks of wood ready to mount on the chuck on my lathe for almost a year. For some reason, I had a mental block about making lidded boxes for my 2 teenage grand daughters. I finally broke through the block an turned them last week. There was a steep learning curve to them, but pretty soon the rust fell off my hands an I started to make some good chips. I'm very pleased with the way they turned out.

Left is Spalted Tamarind, right is Spicewood. Lids are Hickory with a Golden Oak stain. Passed them to my son an daughter-in-law to deliver.

Unlike you, most of us will start seeing cooler weather in a month or two. You'll have to wait until about January, lol. :D
I tend to go to the shop early in the morning. As long as the night temperature is less than 80, I can work in the morning.

I have played a family football game on Christmas Day in shorts cause it was 85 degrees.
