The Bain fire is about 10 miles south of us. Unfortunately the mostly dry flood control basin optimistically referred to as the Santa Ana River draws a lot of homeless encampments. Fires there are not unusual but when the winds get whipping things can get out of control quickly. Cal Fire tries to keep things contained and let the fuel get burned off to reduce future events. Our wind blows from all points on the compass so we get some smoke off and on here at home as things change. It definitely does a number on my eyeballs but that is little enough inconvenience compared to those closer to the fire line. A friend of mine worked for Monsanto (he passed) where they make the retardant you see helicopters and planes dumping. It kills the fire and in a couple of days chemically modifies into a fertilizer to promote new growth. There's your trivia for the day.
