Mostly time. I think I may have tried to just skim coat the whole thing with a light bondo filler and sanded it all smooth. At that point I'm spending a lot more time and might have just bought the reproduction one on amazon ($200). The end piece actually turned out quite nice and looked to be a more modern version (according to my daughter and wife) of the original. I may try to find a better 3d model for any future ones or try smoothing that one.
