coffee table and end tables for my nephew

finally got a start on this one. a ways back we agreed on the designs for the tables. then he dropped on me, that he wanted them to match, or be close to this ugly tv stand. managed to hit it on the head.

got this one started today. cut all of the parts for the coffee table. now all that is needed is to cut the rabbets in the top and bottom, then glue up the top and bottom. then i have to glue up the leg blanks, and set up a jig to cut the tapers.

got all of the parts cut yesterday. busy monkey....

with all of the parts cut, it is easier to go to town on these. after giving it about a week of thought, i decided it would be easier to make a sled, and cut the rabbets on the board ends. i glued up the legs for both the coffee table and end tables, and need to cut the mortises and tenons for the coffee table legs, and cut the tapers on all of them. did a quick set up of the coffee table, to see how it would look, along with placing the legs, and the aprons.

got the top and bottom glued up today.

got the mortises done on the legs, and the tenons on the apron parts. did a test assembly to see how it looks. now i just have to taper the legs, and some touchup work.

started gluing up the panels for the end tables, and tapered the legs for the coffee table.

a bit more done today. got the last of the sides, and the bottoms glued up.

for once, i made an error in my favor, and it always pays to check the design before gluing up. got the door blanks cut and glued up, and tapered the legs. just a few odds and ends to settle out, then i can start sanding and finishing.

those aren't the tables toni, that's just where i set the legs after i cut the angles. so i could make sure that i cut them right.

got all of the parts for the coffee table sanded, and sealed.

got most of the parts stained, and started sanding the parts for the end tables.

stained items still a bit on the tacky side, should be ok for shellac and start of assembly. got all of the parts for the end tables finish sanded, and ready for assembly.

sprayed the inside of the top, then assembled the top. now all that is left is to finish the outside parts, and attach the base. next in line, are the end tables.

this one is moving along quite nicely. fitted out the leg framework with table irons, and fitted it to the bottom of the box. got the assembly of the sides of the end tables started. sealed the box. then addend the backs of the end tables, and stained most of the box. will stain that tomorrow.

got the bottom of the box stained today. hopefully i can spray the shellac on monday. glued up the sides for the third of the end tables.

got the coffee table top sprayed. added the legs, and framework. tipped it right side up, and just have to shellac the edges, and it is done. glued up the third end table body, and later on, added the tops to all three. next up, fitting the bottoms.

the coffee table is ready to be picked up, and added the bottoms to the end tables. just some smoothing out, adding the doors, and finishing, and they will be ready too.

got the end tables resanded, and sealed today. tomorrow starts the staining.
