corona virus comment

I just heard from my son. He is a doctor [not a brag....well...maybe it is ;-) ]. Anyhow, he said going to church would be an "idiot move" from a health standpoint. He is probably right. In fact, thinking about it, a couple people who usually sit near me do not seem like the most hygienic types. Nice folks but, shall we say, not regular handwashers. I'm in a high risk category, very high. Will stay home tomorrow.
 
Frank, that is a great thing to brag about! I would tend to agree with him and you at this point. Dealing with an unknown, a person has to decide risk versus reward based on their own health conditions.
 
Hunker down for a while, if you can. Just don't think you can still find cleaning essentials, paper products, rice, beans, certain canned goods, etc.. Some friends who are off the grid made their monthly trip to town for supplies (mainly TP) and were bewildered to find the shelves bare. Told them it's a good thing you have lots of moss where you live.:rofl:
 
Glad to hear you're taking it seriously Frank. I've been after my mom to stay home and not hang out with all her friends for the next bit as she's also in a super high risk group, so far she seems to be listening so fingers crossed for y'all.

For those of us out west, it's time to learn a little be more about nature and the wonders of what we used to call "Cowboy Toilet Paper" back when I was a kid (hey at least summer is coming on albeit slowly - we're freezing and snow today after all the trees starting to bloom last week :oops: not good for the local orchards!!).

I agree it is wise to take some precautions, especially if you are in a high risk category. While I firmly believe it is something to take seriously, I am not going to let it rule my life. I don't think it is necessary to stock up for a month and a half. Nor do I think it is necessary to buy all the toilet paper in the world. Toilet paper ain't gonna protect you from a respiratory virus. If you feel the need, wear a mask in the stores. Wash you hands with soap. Which means soap. Not fake stuff. Use Ivory and the like. Ivory is soap. Soap generally is know, according to two of my doctor friends, one is a respiratory specialist, kills more stuff than detergents. So, I do have plenty of Ivory around, but then again I always do. But, as with the swine flu, etc., with common sense it will die out. Always does.
 
picked up some stuff tonight, and my wife:blah: was shaking her head as we walked through the store. looked like something out of an eastern european communist country, or venezuela.
 
Yesterday I did not watch the news; not one single minute. I did read the Good News and when I finished reading I felt good, better in fact, than I have for days. The news media are nothing but the bearers of bad tidings. Read the Good News and much will come into perspective.

It is an issue on all our minds. People talk about common interests. If dead we won't be able to talk woodworking. Have to disagree partly. This forum has become more than a place for woodworking discussion. It is a place for friends to meet. So, to answer your question: Yes, we really need a Corona thread.

I agree Frank. And it has been a civil, positive discussion. Seeing the title, if you don't want to talk of it, don't open this thread.
