Given that I've only worked on a hand full of decks in my life and I'm getting ready to re-deck my deck, I thought I might do some research. One of the things I plan to do is use composite for the decking, but got me to wondering about making the joists last as long as the decking.
One of the things I found was deck flashing material, much like the sticky sealer you'd use on a roof edge/valley.

Is this the proper stuff to use to seal the tops of the joists?
