Dragonfly insert

This is my first try at an inlay on my CNC machine.

This is not intended to be a tutorial - just me doing stuff I love to do.

That came out nice, Leo. I like the dragon fly a lot. Was thinking it would also look good in contrasting wood as a repeated motif on a fine cabinet or other furniture piece.

Completely unrelated but did you know that dragon fly larva (which live in ponds) pull water unto their butts then shoot it out as a form of jet propulsion? Fascinating critters.

This was a test just to try the process. There is very little contrast between the two woods. Interesting thing is - depending on the angle to the light the contrast changes and sometimes is quite pronounced.

Looks very nice, Leo! When I wanted to do inlay on my CNC, I reviewed the VCarve process, but it looked kinda clunky. You showed how well it can work!

On my inlays, I used a 30° v-bit to cut a positive of a pattern 1/16" deep into a panel, then used the same bit to cut a negative from a piece of veneer and mated the two.

Great result Leo!, if you want to take it a step further, why not make a relief dragonfly or other thing, and inlay it on a different coloured wood? like a sort of hybrid between inlay, relief and intarsia?

There are lots of possibilities with this process. Beki over at Vectric did a nice flower with different colored woods.
