Extremely simple and quick circle routing jig.

Hi guys.

Most likely the idea is not new, but having the need of routing an arch in my next project (wait and see), and not having a circle routing jig, I came up with this simple jig.

The pictures are self explanatory, or so I think. Basically one of the screws act as a pivot point and the other lock in place the end of the bar that gets into the router where the bars of the side fence are attached.

You change the radius by loosening the router bolts that hold the bar not the one on the jig. The jig spins around the non threaded part of the screw that is the pivot point

You only need a steel bar of the same diameter of your router side fence bars and a small piece of hard wood and two screws.
The fact that neithe the bar nor the pivot poit are aligned with the router bit center doesn't matter, because there will be a virtual line from the pivot point to the bit.

Should you want to do it a bit more sophisticated, you could use two bars, and the piece of wood holding them, then the pivoting screw would be placed in the center of the wood and aligned with the center of the router.

Toni,

A great shop made tool, but like you said, not really a new idea

I have a CRB7 router jig that contains a metal version of your circle jig, as well as different diameter rods for attaching to the router that can be screwed together end to end for cutting circles up to about a 5' in radius. The base for he CRB7 also has circle capabilities for circles less than the radius of the router base. I just thought you might want to have a look at it for possible future circle and edge guide routing needs. I keep finding new ways to use mine. It's been one of my better investments.

Thanks a lot Charley. In here it is very difficult if not impossible to get such accesoires, or if you do, they are really expensive. I may orde one of those soon. What I don’t understand is the price difference between LeeValley and Infinity tools.:dunno:

Toni, that is one clever idea! Thanks for sharing it with us. Glad to see you doing some woodworking.
Thanks Jon, it has taken me almost two years to recover from my elbow, and now I want to catch up, but I’m realising that my skills are a bit rusty. I started a small showcase that I messed up twice. For some reason I lack the concentration power I used to have. Problably it has more to do with my job environment than my ww skills.

That's a good looking jig, but I made my circle cutting jig from a scrap piece of 1/4" plywood. I can cut up to a 6' diameter, can add to it for something bigger and I didn't have to spend $150.

I am clueless about you having an elbow problem. Sorry to hear and glad to hear you are on the mend. I know what dealing with an arm issue is! Hope this finds the Mrs. well. Any carving you do is better than anything I can imagine. My coat of arms is praised by many and it continually reminds me of you and the gathering.

Toni,

Sorry that I mis-read your location. I thought you were in Catalina, a small island off the coast of California. These old eyes are getting worse. I'll be 77 in April.

The CRB7 jig is actually a metal and plastic version of a router jig that was made from wood by several people and it appeared in several forums on the internet about 4 years ago, so you should be able to make something like it yourself, but maybe you can buy one from some source other than the USA. The CRB7 is made by M Power Tools in England, so maybe there is a source closer to you for ordering one.

Here is one of the early shop made models https://www.routerforums.com/attach...w-router-circle-jig-new-router-circle-jig.pdf

I would also be willing to measure my CRB7 and send you the dimensions via PM if you want to make a copy for yourself.

I posted all of this in the thread, but it seems to have disappeared, so here it is again.
