Continuing on the Fabric Hutch, here is the final dry assembly of the base

Doors are glued up now, I did pre-stain the panels first.
Corbels have been added and finished most of the staining of the base.

Tomorrow stain the drawer and hopefully the hinges will come in so I can complete the doors. Then it’s on to the top

Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Your drawing shows the drawer/door sides as 90* straight, but when I look at your photos they look like the straight parts are on the cabinet's outside frame and the drawer and door edges look splayed outward from the bottom up. At least when viewed from the front.

I think the photo is playing tricks on us Darren, I see what you are seeing, but all insides are 90°, the legs are splayed to the outside.

Well, the base is complete, not happy with the stain on the stiles and rails on the doors, don’t know why they are lighter color than the rest, will look at it when it’s in my wife’s sewing room, may pull them and strip and re-stain them, I’ll let her decide that. On to the top section tomorrow.

That's a handsome piece Tom, well done! Like the overall look and especially the brackets. Odd, your problem with the stain.
Don't think you might be guilty of any of the following, but I speak from personal experience. I've had similar issues when I sanded to a higher grit or forgot to continuously stir the stain to keep the pigments suspended. When you figure it out let us know!

Personally, I like the contrast of the lighter stain. May not be the look you were after, but I think it looks great.

I agree with your opinion of the rails/stiles. Did you maybe sand them to a higher grit than the rest? That could inhibit the stain's penetration.

Thanks guys The more I think about it, I think I rushed the second coat of stain, didn’t let it sit long enough. I know I only went to 150 grit (or at least pretty sure), only used 180 grit on the plywood panels. Oh well, I will let Joy make the final decision when I get it upstairs into her sewing room
